Printmaking

Finally managed to get up close and personal with my Gelli print plate

It was such an immersive experience being driven by the process, the repetition the constant change the reflexive nature of the monotype.

I really enjoyed it and was able to make some headway towards focusing on the mountains, as opposed to the seascape. The Olympics of Washington State sit facing me each day and I wonder at them. I have gazed at them through many moments, personal and professional. I visualized them during labor with my second child as I had a clear view of them from my bedroom window at the time.

I am going to keep going with these and invest in some better quality paper. I also plan to make a better plate with square sides. I have now got into the idea of making my own printing press too.. Pinterest is quite my current obsession. I can use it for “wish fulfillment” as a shopping list and as mood boards for projects. Currently it moves me on far more than my other social media …

Instagram and I .. another story, says lots about me that I am not in the studio enough to keep it fresh, but also it is becoming very clear I am not actually maximizing its potential as a marketing platform.. close friends still ask me if any of my work is for sale… I am stalling.

A while back I called the Victoria Art gallery about taking my work in their rent to own scheme they do….. but I know for certain I am not ready for that yet, a significant portfolio and some good press need to be in place before that.

Much is being said in my home about playing the long game. One cannot move at 100 miles an hour and achieve huge success without lots of financial investment, significant stress and a very close-knit support network. I know a few people who do this, they do it well but even they find it hard…

I am not ready to move at that pace. I can own that. The work will gain so much from moving at the pace I can handle without starting to unravel, it has a truth if it is slow, driven not by commerce but by the seasons.

A little light music. 😉

Zen.

see you next week.
